9IATC ORGANISERS

The planning of the 9th International Adventure Therapy Conference (9IATC) first started in 2017 as a collaboration between Sørlandet Hospital and Kristiansand Municipality. Since then, three more organisers have joined, namely Blue Cross and University of Agder and Agder County Council, to where we are now a total of five host organisations.

Throughout this six-year period there has naturally been some movement of people in and out of the 9IATC Local Organising Committee, and we have recently lost our dear colleague, Leiv Einar Gabrielsen. Here we present the main team of the Local Organising Committee, starting with Leiv, who is still with us in everything we do.

Leiv Einar Gabrielsen

In loving memory

We would like to start by remembering and honouring our dear friend and colleague, Leiv, who worked as an outdoor therapist and researcher at the Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (ABUP) at Sørlandet Hospital. Leiv was the initial 9IATC Co-convener together with Leif Roar, and together with Carina, Leif Roar, Olaf and Gunnar, he developed the bid for applying to host 9IATC. Leiv was so excited about welcoming the international adventure therapy field to Norway and he was in the forefront of the first years of the planning process, until he suddenly became ill and a few months later passed away in March of 2021. On the final night of the conference, we will gather in Leiv’s memory under the stars at the mountain top of Nos.
